Protect Our Air from Deadly Soot!

During a global pandemic, the Trump EPA — under the leadership of former coal lobbyist Andrew Wheeler — has chosen NOT to make the air we breathe safer.

This is a strange choice given the fact that the heart and lung issues that result from exposure to air pollution also make people at higher risk from the worst impacts of COVID-19.

Our current standards for particulate matter pollution — aka deadly soot — are dangerously low. Deadly soot is a result of the burning of fossil fuels and causes 85,000 deaths per year.

Tell the EPA: protect people and the air we all breathe, not polluter profits.
As a young American, I'm writing today to urge you to strengthen the current standards on particulate matter pollution, or PM 2.5.

Communities across the country are hurting due to COVID-19. Studies have shown that the heart and lung conditions developed as a result of increased exposure to air pollution like PM 2.5 put people at higher risk from the worst impacts of COVID-19. This is a time we should be strengthening protections of the air we breathe, not staying at a dangerous status quo.

Failing to strengthen these standards puts 85,000 lives on the line each year moving forward. Our communities do not deserve more preventable loss of human life. It is the EPA's responsibility to protect us. This is a failure in that mission.

Please strengthen particulate matter pollution standards to ensure our communities are safe for generations to come.
