Utah is trying to pass a bill that would ban comprehensive sexual education. It would give public and charter schools two options -- either teach abstinence only education or not talk about sexuality at all.
It prohibits teaching kids about contraceptives, as well as sex outside marriage, homosexuality, and sexual intercourse along with anything related to it.
The problem is that abstinence only education has been proven not to work very well. Studies have shown that students who have abstinence only sexual education have sex before marriage at similar rates to those who didn't have abstinence only sexual education.
States that have abstinence only sexual education tend to have higher rates of teen pregnancy, abortion, and STDs.
Please don't leave students in the dark about their bodies -- tell Utah not to ban comprehensive sex ED!
Please do not ban comprehensive sexual education in Utah. Abstinence only education or not talking about the topic at all has been shown not to prevent students from having sex -- it just stops them from being knowledgeable about it, and learning how to go about it in a safe way. States that use abstinence only sexual education tend to have higher abortion rates, more teen pregnancy, and more STDs.
Please educate Utah students about sexual education!
