The University of Phoenix as of March 2011 does not have a Dean's List or Student Honors program to recognize students who work hard to earn high grades.
What I propose is that students be recognized twice a year with a gala dinner or luncheon which would include instructors, advisors, student resource center staff, and UoP directors. This would provide an opportunity for all of these vital parts of UoP to discuss what works, what needs improvement, how to improve the curriculum, and classroom environment. More important is also to collectively celebrate for a job well done in the classroom!!
Together, this dynamic collaboration can improve UoP from the inside out. This would give the students a little boost in confidence that can help endure the lulls of taking 5 week courses. With a little recognition, the pride a student has can positively evolve and impact other students in the classroom and learning team environments.
What UoP will foster with this program is a more committed student that graduates on schedule. Plus with a confident and satisfied student, UoP will have created instant referrals for new students.
Dear fellow students and alumni of the University of Phoenix:
If you work as hard as I do to earn a high grade and actually learn from each class, it would be great to be recognized for my efforts in the classroom. In comparison to traditional universities courses are a bit longer than a our short 5 week courses.
After doing some research and asking a lot of questions, I found that UoP does not offer any Dean's List or Student Honors recognition type program. Compared with schools even smaller than UoP, most schools do have such programs.
I presented my idea of how the program can benefit both ALL UoP students and UoP itself to my advisor. He then made a number of phone calls and sent my detailed proposal to a top level director at UoP headquarters. The response we got back was "UoP does not offer such a program at this time."
With another face to face meeting with my advisor, we both agreed that this proposal has value and merit. And only after a month of sharing my idea with my advisor, today March 15th I was advised by my counselor that the Academic Affairs Manager of UoP would like me to submit my proposal directly to her.
So we need your signature in support of this idea! The more the better!!
Thank you for your support and efforts,
