For the past decade, Brooklyn Hoops, which is also known as Hoopland, has been a beacon of hope to the residents of Brooklyn, NY.Unfortunately, January 1st, 2009 marks the day that this beacon's doors will be closed forever. This facility is home to thousands of Brooklynites seeking an alternative to crime filled streets and non-constructive options that plague our children's day to day reality. Through the doors of Brooklyn Hoops, you will see multiple activities that are provided not only to athletes, but also to general youth with other interest i.e. karate, music, dance, Lacrosse and scheduled academic tutoring. These support systems are the building blocks for youth that want to bring change into their lives; hence, assisting athletes seeking scholarships, molding minds to accept the importance of school, church and family. In sum, there is no available facility within our immediate community large enough to accommodate the multiple interest of our local churches, schools, specialized youth programs and families. Consequently, The most disturbing question remains: "Where are all these people going to go?"
We, the undersigned, are appalled at the thought of losing this treasure in our community, demanding that our elected officials hear our cry and help us "Save Hoopland!"
