No Lumby Prison

This petition was printed and delivered to Lumby Council on February 7th 2011.  At that time it had 176 signatures.  Lumby Council did not enter this petition into the Lumby Council minutes.  Nor were the hand delivered letters entered in the minutes.   I also sent this petition to the BC Solicitor General's Office since they will be making the decision.   The petition remained on the Internet and more people have since signed it. Thank you every one who signed this petition.

The opinion poll referendum took place on April 30th 2011 and Lumby's Mayor Kevin Acton and three Councillors: Janet Green, Lori Mindnich and Ben Winters voted to pursue the prison by excluding the referendum opinion poll results from Area D where 66% of the voters said "No" Lumby Prison.  Councillor Tracy Williamson - representing the 44% "No" voters in the Village voted against the motion.  Way to go Tracy!

So, with 494 Village votes - Lumby Council wants to change the focus of our community but the deal is not done - yet!

Please send your concerns to BC Solicitor General Shirley Bond.

If this petition closes - am placing the comments on my website - http://priscillajudd.ca/theXpress

I am sending an e-mail to everyone with a link to a new petition.  Please leave your comments there too.  Good Luck to all of us.

This Petition is now closed.
We would like the Lumby  elected officials to understand that we the undersigned, do not want a prison in Lumby.

Mayor Acton, you have tried to keep rural residents out of the debate by denying them the right to vote at your public meeting however:  Rural residents pay taxes to the Village office. Rural children attend Lumby Schools. Rural Lumby folk accept Lumby garbage into their rural landscape (at the dump). Rural people support the Lumby library, use the medical clinic, shop in the stores, meet at the pubs and eating establishments.

Rural people worship in the Lumby Churches and celebrate during Lumby Days. In many ways rural residents are part of the fabric of Lumby life.  Rural residents have history here as well as deep roots in the Lumby community.

Rural residents are joining the Village people to ask you to stop trying to build a prison in Lumby because we, the undersigned do not want a prison.

Thank you for reading this and for taking our opinion into consideration.
