A petition by select Billerica citizens to change the current bylaws to allowing gas motorboats on Nuttings lake up to 10-horsepower motors is being presented before the Billerica Town Board at the Annual Fall Town Meeting (Tuesday Oct 7, 2008 at 7:00pm). At this meeting there will be a vote to pass this into a new town bylaw. We need every citizen in Billerica to sign this petition and to show up to the Annual Town meeting to let our collective voices be heard!
If you want to see the continued improvement of Nuttings Lake versus more noise, wake, oil leaks, and other gas motorboat ills on our lake sign the petition today! Help protect our small natural habitat from further damage.
We need each and every lake area and Billerica resident to attend this very important meeting. Let them know we will not permit gas powered boats on our small lake. That we will no longer allow garbage to be dumped and that we will no longer allow fishing hooks to kill our wild life (A young swan swims on our lake today with fishing hook caught in her throat right now!).
The first step to seeing our lake continue to get healthy starts with STOPPING motor boats from being allowed on our lake.
This is the NEW PROPOSAL of bylaws:
"To see if the Town will vote to amend section 10, subsection 10.1 of the General By-Laws to read as follows:
The operation of any boat or watercraft of any nature powered by or propelled by an internal two-stroke combustion engine larger than 10-horsepower is prohibited on Nuttings Lake, except by Emergency Personnel when responding to a valid emergency situation; or act in relation thereto."
Here's what the bylaws ARE TODAY (as of 2005):
10. MOTOR BOATS
10.1 The operation of any boat or water craft of any nature powered or propelled by an internal combustion engine of any nature is prohibited on Nuttings Lake, except by emergency personnel when responding to a valid emergency situation.
