Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar and Depression affects more than the individual

We the undersigned, ask for assistance for uninsured individuals with schizoprhenia, bi-polar and depression.

The medication for these diseases is not affordable for individuals that do not have insurance.   Risperdone is more than $500.00 a month, along with that he takes medication for severe depression, which is another $300.00 per month.  Due to the depression and the schizophrenia, he is unable to hold a job.  My son is just one example.  Hundreds of people that are uninsured have these issues.

The employee at the disability office told us right  up front that because of his age and sex that more than likely his claim would be denied.  She was correct, he was turned down.

The responsibility of getting his medication now depends on me.  I no longer have money for my future because of the cost of medications for my son.  I have spoken to many family members that are in the exact same position.  We struggle daily with choices as to what we can do, buy meds, buy groceries,l pay rent or utilities.  This is not fair.  It wasn't by choice to have this problem.  Schizophrenia

We have contacted the manufacturer for risperidone.  They  do not offer any kind of assistance on the purchase of these medications.  Many companies offer prescritions at a reduced rate of even free as long as the patient follows the directions, completes the necessary forms and sees their doctor as directed.  The prescriptions are sent to the doctors, the patient has the scheduled visit.

However, schizophrenic drugs are not available on this program.  Being schizophrenic is not a choice.  We need assistance in getting drug theraphy for schizophrenic and bi-polar people that cannot otherwise afford the medication.

Appreciation for your time in reading this is offered by all of the undersigned.  We implore you to help with this problem.

Sincerely,
