What authorities found at a rural property in Unicoi County is almost impossible to stomach. Multiple dogs were discovered confined in chain-link enclosures soaked in deep mud and feces, their bodies caked in filth, their fur matted and falling out.
The dogs had no clean shelter. No visible source of water. Their skeletal frames were clearly visible, and blood was found in their feces, which is a sign of severe internal distress and prolonged starvation.
Anyone capable of allowing animals to suffer this way is clearly unwell and poses a continued risk if their behavior is not confronted and treated.

Animal control officers described the dogs as severely emaciated and at serious risk of death. This was not a momentary lapse in care. This was prolonged, intentional neglect that allowed living beings to waste away slowly in unbearable conditions.
Animal cruelty is not an isolated issue. It is a warning sign. And when authorities have clear evidence of prolonged suffering, they must act decisively, not only to protect future animals, but to prevent further harm altogether.
These dogs deserved care, safety, and compassion, not suffering. We must make sure this never happens again.
