Demanding Congressional Action on Gun Violence

Congress, you are partially responsible for the death of twenty small children in Newtown, Connecticut.  You have simply not done enough as our leaders to stop gun violence.  Many of you have allowed the NRA to dictate your actions as opposed to the wishes of your constituents.

Now is the time to redeem your actions with meaningful legislation.  Each congressman is being asked to consider passing laws that will bring sanity back to this nation.  Please consider the following in drafting gun laws:

1. Technology exists that would allow only the registered owner to fire the weapon.  Triggers could be fingerprint sensitive to allow only the owner to fire the weapon.

2. Ban on assault weapons, high capacity clips, and semi-automatic firearms.

3.  Intensive psychological testing of all gun ownership applicants.  Any applicant failing or lying on such an application will be barred from ever owning a firearm.

4.  Medical records will be noted to indicate gun ownership so any change in medicines which may affect the mental ability of the owner will require surrender of weapons to local police authorities until medical professional notify such authorities that the owner is once again capable of responsible ownership of a deadly weapon.

5.  Background checks shall be required for all gun sales.

6.  The culture of violence and destruction must be changed.  Strengthen any existing laws or introduce new laws that lessen the glorification of destruction, killing, and violence.

Again, I hope you recognize your responsibility to building a safe, sane nation.  You were granted the honor of representing American citizens.  We now demand you act.
