Save the Trees in Sonoma

The City of Sonoma has received a draft plan for road and sidewalk improvements in our neighborhood.  This plan calls for the removal of 70 trees and replacement of at least 56.
We the undersigned ask for your support for a modified plan for our neighborhood.  The number of trees slated for removal without replacement will cause an increase in water use, increase in electricity consumption, blight a neighborhood by taking away the natural canopy of mature trees and most importantly do nothing to improve our way of life or increase our safety.

We ask the council to agree to keep the trees and repair sidewalks around the trees, as was done the last time the neighborhood was upgraded in 2000.  We ask that trees slated for removal because of sight distance be retained as all of these streets are dead end or cul de sac and there is no reason to conform to regulations aimed at larger arteries.

We recognize that individual home owners may want to replace their trees and we support those individuals rights.

Finally, we beseach the council to entertain a plan to sink the dangerous and unsightly powerlines.

Thank you for your support.
