The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, which is jointly managed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the State of Hawaii, lies within the shallow warm waters surrounding the main Hawaiian Islands and constitutes one of the world's most important humpback whale habitats.
There can be no doubt that this would create acoustic distubances for all the marine animals dependant on this sanctuary. Marine mammals navigate and communicate through sound and rely on echo location for breeding and feeding. Plans to put a high voltage electical cable there should be halted immediately.
