Two Dogs Were Left to Slowly Die, Locked in Cages in a Florida Backyard

For so many of us who have dogs as pets, we think of them as part of our family. We love them, develop complex relationships with them, and take care to ensure they're safe and protected.

That's what makes it almost impossible to imagine the types of neglect that some dogs suffer. And this case of abuse is a perfect example of just that: an unthinkable tragedy for most dog owners.

In Lee County, Florida, authorities were alerted of possible animal abuse when neighbors noticed dogs locked outside. The dogs weren't being walked or cared for.

Then the smells came.

By the time authorities arrived, it was too late. A sweet pit bull mix and French bulldog were found locked inside of crates. Their poor bodies were literally decomposing, one of them covered in insects.

Sign now to tell the authorities in Lee County: make sure this woman receives a lifetime ban on animal ownership and mandatory mental health counseling!

The report on the incident is harrowing. The crates had no food or water. Reports from neighbors stated that they never witnessed anyone interact with the dogs, giving them love or affection or even a walk to stretch their legs.

These dogs clearly died trapped and alone. It is heartbreaking to think about.

The accused woman is facing multiple charges of abandonment and animal cruelty. But will putting her in jail or giving her fines actually change this kind of destructive behavior against dogs in the future?

If we want to ensure this type of tragedy NEVER happens again, the charges against the accused woman must include mandatory mental health counseling and a lifetime ban on animal ownership. Sign the petition now if you agree!
