Pit Bull Owners Need Pit Bull Education

Many potential dog owners buy or adopt a Pit Bull for status or for the wrong reason. Later, the Pit Bull is returned to the shelter or dog pound because the dog owner lacked the required education in caring for the dog. This is dangerous since many dog pounds are filled to capacity with Pit Bulls, and they may become victim to euthanasia.
By educating Pit Bull owners with a mandatory on-site or web-based program, owner and dog shall equally benefit.
1) dog owners need to become familiar with breed specific legislation and local ordinances that may influence where they live, because they own a Pit Bull.
2) dog owners need to understand the emotional, physical and health care needs of their new dog.
3) dog owners shall learn how to become socially responsible when caring for a Pit Bull dog (speaking well of the breed, introducing strong dogs to children, protecting themselves from lawsuits, learning about dog aggression & the downfall of dog fighting and animal abuse).
4) dog owners need to understand the power and potential damage a Pit Bull or other strong dog can inflict upon a child (learn to supervise dogs in the house, etc.)
5) dog owners need to learn about canine behavior, and what is normal and abnormal in caring for Pit Bull dogs. 6) dog owners need to learn how to become a good Pit Bull ambassador and promote the dog breed; staying on good terms with the public.
