Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have just
murdered another civilian. Alex Pretti was 37 years old - a nurse, helper, scientific researcher, Minnesotan, and U.S. citizen. At a protest over the weekend in Minneapolis, one of Minnesota's largest cities, Alex saw ICE agents attacking a woman who was peacefully fulfilling her role as a legal observer. He rushed in to help.
In retaliation, a group of ICE agents held him on the ground while they shot him multiple times directly in his face.
Now, leaders from across the political spectrum are calling for a full and independent investigation into Alex's murder, and to hold his executioners accountable. Stand with Alex, his family, and all peaceful protestors in Minnesota. Sign the petition.Alex hadn't done anything wrong. Neither had the woman he was trying to protect. But ICE has proved it is not interested in right or wrong.
After Alex tried to shield the woman ICE had pushed to the ground, multiple agents descended on him. One officer sprayed the nurse with pepper spray or another chemical substance. A whole group of agents pulled him to the ground and restrained his arms.
Then they unloaded their guns directly into his head.Afterwards, the Trump administration tried to claim that this action was justified by lying and pretending Alex had pulled a gun on the ICE agents. He had not. Many different videos from different angles documented that moment - and they all show
Alex holding his cell phone in one hand, while the other hand is empty. Two witnesses even went to a federal court to file sworn affidavits affirming this.
But even if Alex
had been holding a gun - which he very clearly was
not -
that wouldn't have been illegal. In fact, Alex was a legal gun owner and he had a permit to carry. While he did not have a gun on him at that moment, he did actually have the full legal right to anyway.
Now, not only are human rights organizations coming to Alex's defense, but so are some unlikely groups, including the National Rifle Association (NRA), the Gun Owners of America, and the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus.
All three of these gun-rights organizations have put out statements supporting Alex, condemning his murder, and calling for a full investigation. As Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, said: "Wow ... Your position is truly horrible when even the NRA calls you out."
ICE agents murdered this man in cold blood, for absolutely no reason at all. They did it just because they could, and now they're lying about what they did and the person they killed.
We MUST demand that these murderers are brought to justice. Alex Pretti's extra-judicial execution must be independently investigated. Help us stand with Alex's loved ones and the organizations speaking out to defend Alex. Sign the petition now!
