Your name on this petition signifies that you are pledging your life to nonviolence, peace and kindness. If we can change our thoughts we can change the world. One person can make a difference; 1 million people can make a bigger difference.

The tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook elementary has left me, as well as so many others, reeling from heartbreak. Sadly, this kind of tragedy is becoming far too common.
This past year has brought on sixteen mass shootings in the United States alone, no one seems to be safe anymore, not even children. Schools, mosques, hospitals, malls, movie theaters - all common places that should be safe to visit, are now becoming symbols of tragedy.
The United States are not alone by any means, mass shootings happen around the globe, in Germany, Scotland, Yemen and the horrible tragedy in Norway (just to name a few where young lives were taken). Then we have the all too familiar (and often times forgotten) violence and terrorism around the world: Gaza, Israel, Afghanistan, Egypt, Syria, and Iran (again the list goes on). This terrorism and needless violence has brought on death tolls of unspeakable proportions. There are too many world citizens living in fear. Fear to go to church or school, fear to see a movie with a friend or go Holiday shopping for family. For those in the Middle East, fear to even go outside or to go to sleep at night.
I’m not asking for stricter gun laws, though they would be nice, but that will take too long. Plus it’s not just the nonsensical violence in the United States that needs to stop. Violence across the globe should be absolutely intolerable by all world citizens.
According to Forbes, I live on the outskirts of one of the ten most dangerous cities in the United States, but not one of the cities on Forbes list pales in comparison to what it would be like living in or on the outskirts of a war zone.
We, the citizens of the World, can not stand by any longer while our children, mothers and daughters, sons and fathers are being needlessly killed. We live in a time where we can make a difference because we can join together around the world, through the internet, and petition against hate and violence. If one signature equals one life lost, then one person makes a difference.
This petition will not get any laws passed. This is a petition for each and every individual in the world to proclaim their intolerance to violence and hate. Your signature is your pledge to live a peaceful, nonviolent life and to help others to do the same. This is our chance, as World citizens, to give every single man, woman or child who has lost their life due to unimaginable violence, be it by a lone gunman, or a government’s army; a voice, a chance, a purpose to their untimely death.
Since the beginning of time, evil and violence has been a dominating factor in the world, it’s time to “give peace a chance” in the immortal worlds of John Lennon, who sadly is also amongst the victims of these ridiculous violent crimes.
There are almost 7 billion people on planet Earth. If every signature represents one life lost to violence, one person willing to make a pledge of peace for a life lost, than 7 billion signatures should just about cover it.
We need to eradicate this disease of hatred and violence. Every single World citizen needs to except that “their way is not the way” “your way is not the way” “my way is not the way” and “your way is your way” my way is my way” and “their way is their way.” Pledge to live your life your way, but whatever your way is, pledge to live it nonviolently from this day forth. Pledge to live a life of kindness and tolerance. Pledge to be tolerant of everyone, but pledge to be intolerant of violence.
This is not about religion or politics, but human compassion and understanding. Let’s be the change that our world needs. Let’s honor all the victims of these horrific and unnecessary tragedies by making a lasting mark of peace and love for human kindness in the world.
Sign today. Let your name be a representation of some beautiful soul who was taken from this world too soon by the hand and hatred of someone else. Let your name represent peace and kindness.
