AC for all JBLM
This petition is to start the process to look into research and options to fund air conditioning for all of Joint Base Lewis-McChord family housing.
Many homes on the Army and Airforce side of JBLM do not currently have air conditioning. Temperatures can range inside our home between 70° and 90°. Many military families struggle with separation of loved ones and other difficult situations. One of those situations that should not be difficult is having a place to call your home that is comfortable and adequate accommodations.
Many military family members from pay grade E5 and below fall under the Washington State guideline for low income and poverty standards. With this in mind there is no extra money to afford window fans and AC units. There are so many guidelines through Lincoln Military Housing for which AC units you may use that your only guaranteed option is to buy your AC unit from the PX on post. This proves cost-prohibitive for many families and counterintuitive to support a system that won't support your need for adequate accommodations. Even if you do find a way to purchase an AC unit they only cool about 2 feet in front of the unit not your entire house.
Many homes on post are older and could be easily retrofitted with an outdoor AC unit. Many homes include a summer fan inside our homes. This could also be retrofitted to an outdoor external AC unit.
This petition is to research options for Central AC for family housing on Joint Base Lewis-McChord provided at no cost to the residence in these homes.
Adequate and comfortable accommodations should be provided for all members who live on Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
