This action will help us keep our street cats feed and sheltered, spay/neutered and rehomed if possible. It will also keep the people who care for street cats to not be hindered by city by-laws that now FINE people who do this at their own expense.
I am writing today as part of a growing group of residents very concerned with our stray and abandoned pet problem in our City and City Council's general lack of care and compassion. Many groups and individuals are working tirelessly to try and help solve this problem by feeding, caring, trapping, vetting, housing and adopting literally thousands of these pets yearly, BUT, we need YOUR help to stop this cycle from continuing.
As most people today are aware, large scale TNR is the only real SOLUTION proven to reduce and eliminate stray cat populations through adoptions of many and the eventual die-off of the remaining maintained feral colonies. This proven solution can only be achieved with full support from City Council including removing any restrictions currently being put on those volunteers trying to help solve our problem. By establishing a City registered and funded volunteer TNR program and with a Low Cost-High Volume Spay-Neuter clinic available to everyone. This clinic will generate extra revenue as will public adoptions from our city shelter, also utilizing volunteers where needed.
The current policies and programs, or lack thereof, are simply not working and are detrimental to our volunteer efforts thus far. The care of our stray pets and our Citys reputation desperately need improving. We are urging council to immediately remove all restrictions preventing more of our residents from volunteering and begin to implement the necessary policies and programs to solve this problem in our City.
We await your swift reply to this correspondence and look forward to attending near future meetings and discussions on these proposals in order to finally solve this problem once and for all. Thank you for listening and caring.
