Rep. Foxx is sponsoring a bill in the House which would allow companies to offer cheaper health insurance premiums to employees who participate in genetic tests.
We encourage Foxx to reconsider advancing this legislation any further. Companies and bosses do not have the right or need to know what diseases their employees are susceptible to in future years. This legislation opens the floodgates to potential discrimination to select employees with cleaner bills of health to save insurance companies money.
Employee privacy should be a leading concern against this legislation. American workers shouldn't be faced with a choice of maintaining their genetic privacy or getting affordable health care.
