In the beginning of January 2013, My Little Acres called about zoning on 3256 52nd street, Kentwood MI. We were told that we were allowed to have a small goat dairy farm on said property as long as we emailed our business plan to the zoning director. Telling him all of our plans, including the amount of goats (30 maximum on the 18 acres), every detail about fencing, feed, and community reach, he had answered us saying we could be allowed. One month later, he called to say he "changed his mind" and that the only way we could be on there is if we had 4 goats maximum, and no dairy certification. This is after we had already submitted our application for the farm finances, signed a purchase agreement, and did all the paperwork needed for opening this spring.
By signing this petition, My Little Acres will have a chance to start our organic goat dairy and help the community keep one of the last farms remaining in Kentwood. Not only will it bring back a beloved farm house, but will also help bring the community together with green technology and a sense of connection.
My Little Acres plans on opening a small organic goat dairy with green technology. We will be Grade A dairy certified, as well as certified organic. The goats will be fed Barley grass instead of grain as it is healthier for the goats as well as the people. By perserving one of the last remaining local farms, We, the people, can make a difference.
