Hi Folks, I have copied and pasted a transcript of a conversation between an Officer from the Donkey Sanctuary in the UK and one of the promoters from the Hallelujah Trail Cowboy church:
Yesterday (26 September) Stephen phoned the Hallelujah Trail Cowboy Church using the phone numbers on the internet poster linked below. For your information, Stephen’s notes about the phone call are as follows:
“The number was for Dan Tomlinson but a woman answered and then I think I might have been put through to Steve Belote as he sounded like the person who had put the phone down on me a moment earlier.
He told me:
The donkey roping on Saturday 29th September 2012 has been cancelled;
That their intention in putting on a donkey roping event was to find something useful to do with donkeys that are otherwise starving in the current Texan drought;
That donkeys in Big Bend Park are now suffering because of the drought, some dying, and that if we wanted to do something to help we could look into shipping feed to them;
That their intention in roping is not to cause harm but roping is something they grow up with on their ranches so it is just part of their ranching culture with the implication that most animals are not actually injured.
After initially having the phone put down on me, the second call was respectful with each of us listening to the other’s viewpoint.
I don’t want to sound mis-trustful but it would still be nice for someone pro-donkey and present at the event on Saturday to confirm that no donkey roping went ahead!
If anyone in Texas can give us more information about the donkeys in Big Bend and how they are faring in the present drought, that would be useful.”
AGAIN I STILL DO NOT HAVE A WRITTEN CONFIRMATION OF THIS CANCELLATION FROM ANYONE INVOLVED. THAT IS REQUIRED BEFORE I WILL END THE PETITION.
I BELIEVE WE HAVE SOMEONE GOING TO EDEN TO MAKE CERTAIN THAT DONKEY ROPING EVENT DOES NOT TAKE PLACE.
