Send thanks to Hospira Inc. for taking a stand again the misuse of their drug for lethal injection!
Hospira Inc. has permanently stopped the production of Pentothal-Thiopental Sodium, the anesthetic used in the cocktail of drugs administered during lethal injection. Hospira Inc. is the only company to make this drug. Their decision to stop its production has caused quite the stir in the United States' capital punishment system.
Without this drug, states are not able to produce the lethal injection cocktail. Many states, including California, have already run out of thiopental sodium, forcing them to delay execution of many prisoners.
Sant'Egidio's spokesman, Mario Marazziti, believes the decision was "highly responsible" He said: "It highlights the point that therapeutic drugs and doctors should never be used to bring about death"
We want to thank Hospira Inc. for taking a stand against the misuse of this drug and helping buy time in the fight against the death penalty.
