No Foreign Oil! Free Our Economy and Help the Environment

Founded in 1993 by actor and community leader Dennis Weaver, the Institute of Ecolonomics has dedicated itself to bringing about change. A non-profit organization, the IOE demonstrates that creating a symbiotic relationship between a strong economy and a healthy ecology is the only formula for a sustainable future.

In the fall of 2001, the Institute of Ecolonomics produced the Drive for Life, an ambitious nine-day, 1000-mile journey from Los Angeles to Denver led by alternative fueled vehicles. Our goal was to Drive Hydrogen Home® and now we have taken on that challenge again.

In the spring of 2003, the IOE will produce the Drive to Survive, a cross-country caravan demonstrating the availability and viability of alternative fuels and emphasizing hydrogen. Along the way, through public appearances and media coverage, we will energize a nation. Volunteers, celebrities, politicians, and business and community leaders alike are already on board.

Be a part of this historic drive by donating your own valuable resource - your signature.

Dear President Bush and Congress,

We pledge to support the following efforts to:

  • Improve automobile and light-truck fuel efficiency by
    increasing Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) standards
    by 50%, specifically, 41 mpg for cars and 31 mpg for light
    trucks by 2010;
  • Promote the use of alternative-powered vehicles by
    requiring all light-duty vehicles purchased by the federal
    government either be powered by alternative fuel or employ
    gasoline/electric hybrid technology by 2010;
  • Promote renewable fuels to replace foreign oil. 20% of all
    light-duty motor fuels should be non-petroleum based by 2010.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned
