Dr. Martin L King Commemoration

Description/History:

We, the undersigned, citizens of the United States of America have a dream to see the face of Martin Luther King Jr. on the United States Of America's one dollar coin along side Eisenhower, Suasan B. Anthony, Sacagawea and George Washington. MLK Jr. raised public consciousness of the civil rights movement and established himself as one of the greatest orators in U.S. history.

In 1964, King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end segregation and racial discrimination through civil disobedience and other non-violent means. Although King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee he was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Jimmy Carter in 1977.

Martin Luther King Day was established as a national holiday in the United States in 1986. In 2004, King was posthumously awarded a Congressional Gold Medal. For these reasons and many others this is our petition. For his (Martin Luther King Jr.) life before and after death we hold dearly in hearts forever.

Petition:

We, the undersigned, call on the United States Of America's government to put Martin Luther King Jr. on the face of the one dollar coin along side Eisenhower, Suasan B. Anthony, Sacagawea and George Washington.

Your signature will let our government know that as citizens of the United States Of America we would be so grateful and proud to have this coin minted and in circulation.
