amotor accident robbed his vital reproductive system-uganda africa

A trailor accident almost robbed him of his life and he now needs financial help to recuperate.

At eight years, Ayub Kiruyi had already made up his mind to become an engineer but his dreams were shuttered on the morning of October 15 2011.

It is on that morning that a Scania tipper registration number UXY 441 crashed his legs seeing him to level 2C room 20, Mulago Hospital(main hospital in uganda) where he spent close to four months groaning with a lot of pain as he battled for his life.

A tear runs down his chubby cheeks as Ayub tells his story: “It was a Saturday and at about 8am, I was on my way to school. I crossed the road with the help of a certain gentleman but in just about two minutes, a tipper came and hit me from behind and continued moving as I screamed shouting for help. By the time it stopped my left thigh had already been crashed but I could not feel any pain.”

He continues that the driver got out and took off but some pedestrians pulled him out from under the stone loaded tipper. “I told them to check my bagwhere written mummy’s phone number on the cover of one of my exercise books and then two gentlemen I presume were catholic priests according to their dressing, drove me to the hospital.

The last thing I remember was a pool of blood. By the time I regained consciousness, I had a lot of pain and without one of my legs.” “Seeing all these bandages, I asked mummy what happened but she could not tell me, a nurse who was around told me I had an accident and that my leg had been cut off,” he adds. According to Siraji Baluzibye, Ayub’s father, referring to police reports the Tipper UXY 441 belongs to Roko Construction Company Ltd.on of the largest companies in the country and africa at large

Dr Waiswa Gonzaga, one of the orthopedic surgeons who operated on kiruyi says when he got to the hospital, his abdomen was open, bladder exposed and injured with one of his limbs seriously crashed. “His injuries were very grave. The testes were crashed beyond repair so we had to remove them, the bladder exposed and out and his entire limb crashed. Bleeding was too much.

Thank God he is now out of danger. the only remaining bit is to see a urologist in order to assess the boy’s urethra because it was also injured and see how possible to reconnect it to the urinary organ so he can once again pass urine without any tube,” says Dr Waiswa.

However, Waiswa quickly adds, “There is no way he could do without a catheter (tube) in his bladder because the urethra had been seriously injured but right now his bladder has healed. The only big trouble now is to re-establish connection between the bladder and the urinary organ. “And also, he needs an artificial limb, it is expensive though.

I am not so sure about the exact amount but the least might be about 1000.00us dollers and above”
Baluzibye, a casual labourer  and father of six children is seeking for help to buy his son an artificial leg and also cover the medical bills when it is time for the boy to go for a second surgery after the first one which cost close to 1500 us dollers  failed to yield desired results after the skin graft started to decompose. He is also worried he will never have to see Kiruyi’s children after the doctors confirmed that that the boy’s testicles were removed during the operation.

“Doctors told me to look for at least more 1500us dollers for another skin draft on his stomach, but we need another amount for the limb, and the operation to remove the tube before he starts passing urine normally. What worries me the more is that my son will never have children. He will always remain like that handsome but…,” he says.
A tear drops as he narrates. Then he keeps silent for a minute. The glass of water in Baluzibye’s right hand is seemingly heavy so he rests it at a table before he can go on with the story.

On the same table, is a copy of a police report reference number TAR 284/2011 from Kireka police post. The report shows that Isaac Waibi Saleh’s (driver) driving permit was issued in June 2007 and June 2010 was the date of expiry. While the family especially his father is slowly getting swallowed in the world of pessimism, Kiruyistill nurses his earlier dream and hopes to go back to school, study and become an engineer after he sat his exams from the hospital beating almost half of his classmates.

“I believe I can become better, I am only waiting to have the tube out and I go back to school, I copy notes from my friends now and daddy teaches me from home. I must go back to school,” he says.
