Balanced and Comprehensive Energy Policy

  • al: Marilyn Nelson

The United States needs a balanced and comprehensive energy policy that increases U.S. energy independence and provides for a more predictable and stable energy supply. ATA believes key elements of a comprehensive energy policy include:
  • Addressing both energy supply and demand
  • Providing for both short- and long-term energy needs
  • Balancing use of traditional energy sources with the development of alternatives and conservation measures
  • Encouraging environmentally responsible production of all domestic energy resources
  • Recognizing the economic relationship between physical and nonphysical (commodities) markets
  • Strengthening energy research and development programs

What Can Government Do Now? %u2013 Make more crude oil and fuel available in the marketplace, and send a signal to the commodities speculators and manipulators that the government is not going to let their greed drive consumer prices. The government should immediately:

  1. Release 100 million barrels of crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve
  2. Release two million barrels of heating oil from the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve
  3. Close regulatory loopholes in the trading of commodity futures

What%u2019s Next? %u2013 We believe that the proposals above will meaningfully temper fuel prices, thereby protecting the American people in the ordinary course of their lives

We the undersigned  believe that the United States needs a balanced and comprehensive energy independence which would provide a more prdictable and stable energy supply.

This policy includes: addressing both energy supply and demand, provide for short and long term needs, balance the use of traditional energy resources with the development of alternatives and conservation measures, encourage environmentally responsible production of domestic energy resources, recognizing the economic relationship between phyical and nonphysical markets, strengethen energy research and development programs.

We believe that this can be done by making more crude oil and fuel available in the marketplace, and sending a signal to the commodities speculators and manipulators that the government is not going to let their greed drive consumer prices. The government should immediately:

  1. Release 100 million barrels of crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve

  2. Release two million barrels of heating oil from the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve

  3. Close regulatory loopholes in the trading of commodity futures

Thank you for your attention to this important matter to all citizens.
