Battery Petition  

WHEREAS in BC more then 60 million single-use batteries are dumped in landfills and incinerators every year;

AND WHEREWAS single-use disposable batteries are responsible for up to 70 percent of heavy metal contaminants found in landfills;

AND WHEREWAS BC has no producer responsibility or other programs to facilitate recycling to keep these toxic materials out of landfills;

THEREFORE, WE THE UNDERSIGNED request The Government of British Columbia to develop a producer responsibility program for recycling single use batteries, or include batteries in any programs or regulations regarding electronic waste recycling and handling.
