Belmont Harbor Dog Beach Petition
We are working on getting the Unofficial Dog Beach over at Belmont Harbor changed into an Official Dog Beach or DOG FRIENDLY AREA (DFA). That means dogs can be off-leash and not get ticketed. That beach area has been used as a dog beach for 20 years and it is completely gated and fenced in so dogs cannot get off the beach. However since it is not an %u201COFFICIAL%u201D Dog Friendly Area the POLICE are obligated to write tickets for dogs being unleashed when there is a complaint.
The CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT wants to turn this into a legal DFA so that the police do not have to waste time and manpower writing tickets at a gated beach . However there a certain procedures that need to be followed in order to designate the beach a Dog Friendly Area. The main procedure is getting signatures from the Buildings within 5 blocks of the proposed DFA, so we are requesting that we be allowed to post a Petition somewhere in the building so we can get signatures from residents.
