Blue fin tuna

The Atlantic bluefin tuna is a large migratory fish found in the western and eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. This species is at serious risk of extinction if unsustainable fishing practices in the Mediterranean are not stopped.
A massive and hi-tech commerical fishing fleet and illegal fishing could mean that this magnificent species is gone from Mediterranean waters.

According to scientists, more than one and one-half million species exist on the earth today. However, recent estimates state that at least 20 times that many species inhabit the planet.

Atlantic bluefin tuna populations have declined alarmingly over the past few decades. Populations first showed signs of overfishing in the late 1960s. But despite various management and conservation measures introduced by ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna) since then, populations continued to decline due to continued overfishing.

We should close the Mediterranean bluefin tuna fishery now, to gain control of the fishery and allow the species to recover and save it from collapse.
