Create a Marshall Plan for Afghanistan

We the undersigned request you develop and implement a Marshall Plan for Afghanistan.The Taliban and Al Qaeda thrive on poverty, hunger, and fear.  The single greatest way to defeat them is to rebuild Afghanistan just as we rebuilt Europe after World War II.  When Afghani farmers receive more guaranteed income from growing opium poppies than from growing food, and the Taliban can coerce them to grow poppies, we will not be able to succeed with military force alone.When Afghani citizens are distraught in fear of land-mines while walking through fields, and of IEDs on their roads, we will not be able to succeed with military force alone.When Afghanis live in bomb rubble and broken cities, we will not be able to succeed with military force alone.When Afghanis have a clean, competent government, when Afghanis have safe fields and roads, when they have homes and public services, we will have success. The only way to accomplish this is with a multi-lateral reconstruction and recovery plan that clears land mines, rebuilds houses and cities, and secures the daily safety of the Afghani people.All the nations of the world have a stake in defeating the Taliban and Al Qaeda by creating peace in Afghanistan.  Call on the United Nations, NATO, the European Union and especially the Organization of Islamic States to organize and implement a Marshall Plan to rebuild the nation of Afghanistan. Thank you for reading this and considering how we may best succeed for the Afghani people.
