Helping Babies in the South Okanagan

Helping Babies in the South Okanagan

Currently within the Okanagan there is only one facility in Kelowna providing sufficient space and care for mothers and their newborns. Meaning any parents in the South Okanagan must travel to Kelowna, or sometimes even Vancouver, if their newborn needs extra attention after the birth and a bed in the nursery.

Penticton Regional Hospital nursery needs to be funded and staffed to at least a level 1B status in order to provide decent care to families in the South Okanagan. We are delivering approximately 700 babies/year in our area and that number appears to be increasing. It is not right that nursery services should be declining and specialized newborn nurses leaving at a high rate.

Parents in the South Okanagan are tired and frustrated having our nursery closed due to funding. We want our babies and moms in our nursery until they are able to go home.

Penticton and surrounding area are looking for your support to re-open and maintain the level 1B status at the Penticton Regional Hospital.
