MAKING A STREET RACE EVENT LEGAL IN ENID, OK

Throw Down in E-Town:  Keeping the Race on Track

Dear Members of Enid City Council;

Our motto is %u201CKeeping the Race on Track%u201D to us this means taking the race off of the street and putting the racers in a safe, controlled, family oriented environment.

We would like to propose to the City of Enid a %u201CLegal Drag Race%u201D event that would be held Semi-Annually during the spring and fall months. Weekend events will include Cruisin Van Buren hosted by Darla Robbins and the VB Cruisers on Friday and Saturday nights, Car Show, Burn out contest, Awards Ceremony and Drag Race on Saturday. Will also include future updated events.

OPPORTUNITY:

Drag racing is one of the fastest growing spectator sports in America, Enid is largely an automotive influenced town dating back before Geronimo Motors Co was organized in 1916. It will give citizens of Enid and surrounding areas the chance to spend their money locally instead of traveling to competing raceways. We speculate that at the time of weekend events we can increase revenue that will be generated from visitors filling our motels/hotels, our fine restaurants and other visitor attractions. We feel that adding the racing event will provide a platform for sponsors and local businesses to promote products and services in front of thousands of racing fans and participants.

PARTICIPATION:

We have several local Upstanding Business Owners%u2019 that are ready and willing to donate the costs of liability insurance that we will carry.  Once the race is approved we will present you with a certificate of insurance.

Drivers will be encouraged to provide proof of liability insurance before racing.

The city will have no costs; we have local businesses that are sponsoring every aspect of the event from concessions to safety.

We have corresponded with Phillip Clover, Fire Chief who will be providing a first response vehicle and two volunteer emergency responders. Sgt. We also have coordinated with Larry Currier at Enid Concrete who will be providing 100 cement barricades for these events.

We would like to point out that there have been no formal complaints during the %u201CCruisin Van Buren%u201D Events and there are many people that would like to see Drag Racing come to Enid.  We started a petition on August 3, 2010 to show the number of supporters. We currently have ???? signatures on this petition.

No event will offer spectators this much excitement and entertainment!!!
