We, the undersigned believe:
The recent Senate action to cut spending for mass transit in the stimulus bill is a mistake. The mass transit systems of the US are far behind those in many other countries where these are rightly included as infrastructure to receive broad national support. To spend tax money bailing out a weak, uncompetitive US auto industry and continuing to fund military systems which the defense department does not ask for is irresponsible. More good jobs would be created by developing and supporting a highly efficient mass transit structure than would be lost by terminating those producing poor and unneeded product. Our inordinate love affair with our big cars and regional job welfare should be discouraged in favor of efficient, less environmentally destructive means of travel.
Thanks for your consideration.
