Rehire Unjustly Fired Housekeepers in Santa Clara!
Lorena Reyes has never worn a bikini--not even in the privacy of her own home. So imagine her dismay when she saw a photo of her face, crudely Photoshopped onto the body of a bikini-clad surfer chick.
This humiliating pic didn't come at her via email. Oh no, she found it posted in the break room of the Santa Clara Hyatt Regency where she works in Housekeeping. A similarly tasteless collage of her sister Martha was posted to the same board. Martha tore the photos down. Management took over and, instead of reciting the Hyatt's sexual harassment policy to its staff, reinstated the insulting photos to the break room. Two days later, the Reyes sisters were fired.
Lorena told Jezebel.com that she had worked for the Hyatt for 24 years. Tell the Hyatt Regency to rehire the Reyes sisters and to review its sexual harassment policies with employees at all levels. It seems to have slipped a few minds.
I am writing to urge you to rehire the two Reyes sisters, whom you unjustly fired after they protested an unfair and arguably sexual photo of them posted in the staff break room. To ignore the sisters' concerns after they have been in your employ for nearly 25 years is not only horrifying; it is downright immoral. All the Reyes sisters wanted was for you to discipline (or at least give a verbal warning) to the staff member in question. Instead, you fired them based on a technicality. I demand that you rehire the Reyes sisters today.
