State Representative Greg Harris doesn't think legislation he pushed that would legalize gay marriage in Illinois will pass this year because the "votes aren't there".
Currently, the state has a civil unions law, but marriage equality is what the law should be. While the war for equality wages on, anti-gay individuals in Illinois are trying to stop same-sex marriage from becoming a reality.
Everyone has the right to love and marry, and all people should be treated equally under the law. Passing this law now would also help with Illinois' troubled economy according to a recent report.

Please legalize gay marriage in the state of Illinois. There should be no debate over this issue -- everyone should be treated equally under the law, and right now, LGBT people are not being treated in this way.
It is time to move forward and make marriage equality a reality.
