Not only is the U.S. government now
categorizing trans activists, immigration advocates, and people supporting them as "domestic terrorists" who push "radical gender ideology" - it is also creating
a "cash reward system" to encourage everyday civilians to
turn in their trans- or trans-supporting neighbors.Sign the petition to demand an immediate end to this disgusting "cash bounty" reward system and a retraction of this unfounded classification!U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, the head of Trump's Justice Department, issued a memo to law enforcement and federal prosecutors across the U.S. on December 4th. It was leaked just four days later - so now we know what's going on behind the scenes.
The memo clarifies who will be considered "domestic terrorists" under the Trump administration. This includes anyone with "hostility towards traditional views on family, religion, and morality," who promotes "radical gender ideology," people "in favor of mass migration and open borders," and anyone who's feeling iffy on capitalism at the moment.
It's an extremely wide definition, but
the goal is clear: to find anyone who opposes the Trump administration and who opposes extreme right-wing views, and
to criminalize them.The memo also states that the FBI should
"establish a cash reward system for information that leads to the successful identification and arrest of individuals in the leadership of domestic terrorist organizations." And to push this cash bounty even more, the FBI is now supposed to more extensively publicize and popularize its tip line to report so-called "domestic terrorists."
This means people will get paid if they call the FBI, report that they know of a trans activist or immigration rights activist, and turn them in. Meanwhile, Bondi's memo entirely
ignores the fact that
most domestic terrorism attacks are perpetrated by right-wing groups or individuals. Research has repeatedly shown that right-wingers perpetrated the vast majority of domestic terrorism (around 66% in 2019 and 90% of attacks in 2020). They're also the ones responsible for the
vast majority of ideologically-fueled killings and deaths.If Bondi wants to promote Americans' safety, she needs to focus on where the actual violence is - with right-wing ideologies, not among people promoting human rights, wellness, safety, and compassion.
