The shame of the Faroe Islands.
The sea is stained red, and its not because of the climatic effects of nature. It's because of the cruelty that the human beings (supposedly civilised humans), kill hundreds of harmless Pilot whales. This happens every year in the Faroe islands of Denmark.
The Faroe Islands have their own government, language, flag, currency and make their own rules. If possible the slaughter would be stopped by the Danish government (Danes in general are appalled by the killings). This petition will therefore be sent to The Faroe Islands government itself, more specifically Mr. Kaj Leo Johannesen, then hopefully this petition will make a difference.
In this slaughter the main participants are young teens said to be proving that they have become mature men. ( God, help us??)
In this big celebration, nothing is missing for the fun. Everyone is participating in one way or the other, killing or looking at the cruelty supporting like a spectator.
Is it necessary to mention that Pilot whales, (these animals are not dolphins they are pilot whales a slightly larger but similar looking cousin!) are, like all the other species of dolphins, near extinction, and they get near men to play and interact in a way of PURE friendship.
They don't die instantly; they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hocks. At that time the whales produce a grim scream, compatible with the cry of a new born child. The whale suffers and there's no compassion till this sweet being slowly dies in its own blood. This mindless inhumane slaughter must be stopped immediately and I would implore everyone to boycott all products from the Faroe Islands. Please do all you can to help & if you wish to become more proactive in trying to stop this bloodbath I would also ask that you support bodies such as Greenpeace, http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/ who are striving to end this type of cruelty. We the undersigned would like to call on the Faroe Islands Government to act now to stop this mindless slaughter of harmless creatures in danger of extinction. There can be no excuse for such slaughter of innocent creatures so that 'boys' can prove their 'manhood' or whatever other reason! It proves nothing except the shame & cruelty of a nation.
