Congress: Stand up to the bottled water industry and support our parks!

The International Bottled Water Association wants to stop our national parks from becoming bottled-water-free. At the direction of Nestle and other big bottled water brands, IBWA is trying to limit access to tap water and increase trash in our shared natural treasures.

We can’t let this happen. More and more national parks are becoming bottled-water-free, profoundly reducing our ecological footprint in these natural treasures. And when parks promote the tap instead of bottled water, it sends a message that reverberates far and wide: Bottled water is anything but green, and like our parks, our drinking water is not for sale.

Care2 is proud to be working with a large coalition of groups standing with our parks, and against efforts to prioritize corporate water over safe, clean, tap water. By becoming bottled-water-free, our national parks are leading by example by protecting not only the environment, but also the human right to water. We must stop the bottled water industry’s aggressive attempt to curb this growing movement.

Bottled water has devastating environmental impacts, from the petroleum-based bottle production to the billions of pounds of plastic that wind up as landfill or litter each year. And in our precious national parks, plastic water bottles are a huge source of waste – making up about a third of all garbage in surveyed parks. That is why national parks are taking a stand and becoming bottled-water-free. Pledge to support our national parks’ efforts to buck the bottle and to prevent bottled water industry attempts to sabotage this commonsense sustainability policy.
