AT&T and Milestone Communications are proposing to put a cellular tower/ monopole on Stuart High School property. We are informed that current plans will call for a cellular tower on top of the existing light pole at the northeast corner of the football field. The roughly 100 foot proposed cellular tower will be erected only about ten to twenty feet from the stadium bleachers.
We do not believe that it is appropriate to place a cellular tower on school grounds, and we are particularly concerned about the dangers created by the placement of the tower so close to the football field and bleachers, including the dangers of falling ice.
We do not believe that AT&T and Milestone Communications have met their burden to present data sufficient to demonstrate a need for the new cellular tower or that there are not locations at which it could be placed that are more harmonious with the surrounding areas.
The cellular tower is not congruent with the character of the area, will reduce the property values of the residences near to the high school property, and as a result will reduce the overall property values of the surrounding residences. The cellular tower will be an incredible eyesore and will negatively impact the aesthetics and quality of life in the community.
Therefore we, the undersigned, oppose the construction of any communications facility, including but not limited to the one proposed by AT&T and Milestone Communications. We demand that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the Fairfax County Planning Commission intervene and stop the planning, marketing and erection of any cellular tower on the Stuart High School property.
