The Syrian Civil War: Stop it Before it's too Late

The Syrian Civil War has been going on for roughly 22 months now. The Syrian president, Bashar Al-Assad, is showing no signs of stopping. An intervention by NATO is the only effective solution that'll put an end to this atrocity. These are the statistics so far:

  • 60,000 dead
  • Over 607,000 refugees
  • More than 2.5 million internally displaced people (people have been forced to leave their homes but still remain in Syria)

Although sanctions have been placed against Syria, it is not enough to stop this massacre. Assad may soon use chemical weapons against his own people, thereby increasing the statistics. We cannot allow this to go on. We cannot just sit and stare while innocent people are being slaughtered like sheep. An intervention where NATO creates a "no-fly" zone over Syria will weaken Assad's forces, and therefore have less power to kill civilians. This method worked in Libya, and it's an effective method to use without risking NATO causalties. If nothing is done soon, they whole region may even be pulled into a war, leading to more deaths.
