Don't Celebrate the Lunar New Year With Horse Fights!

2014 is the year of the horse, and villagers in Southern China are celebrating the Lunar New Year with stallion fights. In these cruel and bloody events, trainers parade a mare in heat in front of two stallions, who then fight in hopes of mating with her.

The two stallions kick and bite each other, drawing hair and blood. In some fights, the losing horse dies from exhaustion or injuries. The mares are sometimes injected with hormones to induce heat.

Stallion fighting is a 500-year-old tradition, but that is no excuse to continue with the violent sport. The new year should mark an end to senseless animal cruelty, not a reason to celebrate it. Please sign the petition to convince Chinese officials to ban stallion fights!

We, the undersigned, are concerned that villagers in Southern China are celebrating the Lunar New Year with stallion fights. As you know, these fights involve trainers parading a mare in heat in front of two stallions, who then fight in hopes of mating with her.

During the fight, the two stallions kick and bite each other, drawing hair and blood. In some fights, the losing horse dies from exhaustion or injuries. The mares are sometimes injected with hormones to induce heat.

Stallion fighting is a 500-year-old tradition, but that is no excuse to continue with the violent sport. We believe that the new year should mark an end to senseless animal cruelty, not a reason to celebrate it. We respectfully urge you to ban the practice of stallion fighting in China. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
