NIAGARA FALLS, STOP RIPPING OFF LOCALS AND TOURISTS WITH FAKE TOURISM TAXES!

When I was a kid, I remember the excitement of going with my family for a weekend trip to Niagara Falls. But the good old days are gone and most families are now unable to afford a trip To Niagara due to a local SCAM they call the tourism improvement fee (TIF)

Also called the Niagara Falls destination fee (NFDF) or destination marketing fee (DMF). etc etc etc

It initially started as a voluntary 3% fee on your hotel bill and has spiraled uncontrollably into a fee you will find at coffee shops, restaurants, shows, and attractions. The fee has increased in some establishments to upwards of 10%-15% and combined with the lack of truth of where the money is going and who regulates this fee has caused much confusion and a dent in the reputation of this legendary tourist location.

For many years investigative reports, news stations, and local media have tried to bring attention to this issue and pushed for clarity.

This month we have seen a new leader elected in our province who says he fights for us and wants to help working families.

Well, M.r. Ford, I am asking you to help clear up this mess and Make Niagara Falls a trusted place for Canadians and people abroad.

Please bring clarity and responsibility

Is the FEE legal?
Where is the money going?
What establishments can charge the Fee?
Is the FEE mandatory?

I don't think anyone would be against a small fee that goes back to the community to help with events, fireworks or the upkeep of this beautiful location. But there needs to be a standard FEE, that is clear, requires OVERSIGHT, and most importantly accountability.

Thank You
