Since the development of the Woolworths Metro store at 360 Orrong Road, Caulfield North, on the corner of Lucan Street, we, the Lucan Street residents have experienced issues with traffic and parking on our street. The store has just extended it's trading hours from 10pm to 11pm.
Cars are frequently making fast turns into Lucan Street from Orrong Road, often nearly causing collisions with cars leaving Lucan St or pedestrians crossing the street. We propose pedestrian crossing markings on Lucan St and 'give way to pedestrians' signage.
Cars are driving at high speed down Lucan Street. We believe the street should be limited to 40km per hour and speed bumps installed. There are many families with young children who reside on the street and the speeding cars pose a great danger. We understand traffic monitoring has previously been undertaken but the conditions have changed drastically since that time with the revitalisation of the 'Alma Village' shopping precinct.
Parking has become difficult for local residents and their visitors. We believe the south side of the street should remain as two-hour hour parking 8am-6pm and permit parking only at other times. We believe the north side of street should be amended from no timed parking during the day however permit parking only in the evenings through to early morning (perhaps 6pm-8am). We believe that each residence should receive 3 parking permits (fixed or flexible) per household to accommodate their cars and guests.
We also note that parking was restricted on the east side of the adjoinin street, Colin St, during construction of the supermarket due to the number of tradespeople parking there and the large trucks turning into the street. This has limited parking for Colin's Street residents who now frequently park on Lucan Street further limiting parking options. We believe the parking on the east side of Colin Street should be reviewed and reinstated.
