Discrimination at local level of the American Red Cross

My name is Laura Dabio. I was the the Disaster Chairman for the Mad River American Red Cross in Champaign and Logan counties in West Liberty, Ohio. Up untill Sep. 17, 2007. I was a volunteer, not paid or court ordered to be there as some are. I went to fires when ever I recieved calls in the middle of the day or night to help fire, flooding, storm victims and or displaced victims with food, clothing and shelter anything they needed to get help with. In August of this year our chapter hired a new Director. The Disaster Services/Financial Director whom I reported to and covered Disaster Services while she was on vacation. I was on a displaced person call when I recieved a call from our local Health Department to open Cooling Shelters for anyone in our county that needed a place in air condition to get relief from the high tempatures and humidity ( the temps were 99 degrees and humidity over 100%). The new director was on the job one week prior to this request. I was required to call and let her know what was going on and get her help getting this started. I left a message on her voice mail and she never called back. Myself and my Co-Chairman whom is also my life partner got the show going, and helped around 30-35 people. I had a issue with the lack of response from the Directer. This was her chance to see the inter workings on how and what we do for the community. She never helped us in anyway. It was such a learning expirence and she could have learned alot from it. This was her chance to show myself and our whole Disaster Team Members her role in leadership. It was like our Super Bowl and she never bothered to show up and coach or at least try too. The follwing week both myself and my partner were called into the Directer's office and was given a piece of paper with her dress code that she wrote up. It is not the dress code in our Volunteer Hand Book. Two other volunteers were also working that day and they were never addressed about the Dress Code. I feel that we were called out for no reason other than to be discriminated against and booted out . Myself & my partner both recieved letters of termination that in a nut shell said " Acts in contrary and conflicts with the American Red Cross" the letter also said that we were not to discuss the Termination with anyone. Again, we were not PAID staff members, nor given a UNIFORM to perform our duties while on Red Cross Business. We would have worn them if provided. We both feel that we were discriminated against because of our personal life. We have never given her any reason to say these things, and I still do not know what she is talking about. Just 2 months prior at our Awards banquet we both recieved Awards for our excellence in service. I then notified one of the board members of this letter and asked for an investigation to find out why we were good enoungh before the new Directer arrived and why not now. Please help us make this right.
