Stop National Geographic's Bluefin Slaughter

National Geographic’s "Wicked Tuna" television reality series symbolizes capitalism at its worst. They are making money from lying to the public about what these beings, Bluefin tuna, really mean to our world.

They are definitely apex predators, cleansing other species of food fishes of their weakened individuals.  Reaching speeds that rival those of cars on a freeway, Bluefin tuna can cross the Atlantic in fewer than 60 days. But neither the Atlantic nor its subspecies Pacific Bluefin have been able to outrun modern fishing boats.  All Bluefin (even the southern subspecies) are at historically low numbers due to overfishing.

Since Bluefins are Sui generis and endangered, how dare National Geographic market this program to promote the slaughter of the last of these beautiful fish?  Because they are a strong breed with such high intelligence, endurance, will to survive, and tolerance for pain does not make them "wicked" or otherwise less precious.  National Geographic positions itself as a conservation organization, and yet they are promoting decimation of a dwindling species of extraordinary beings for their own selfish remuneration.  Talk about wicked!
