Stand up for DEMOCRACY and a NATION'S right to Self-government/Self-determination

Especially after the pro-Communist KMT won the most recent Taiwan elections with their promise to promote CLOSER ties with the COMMUNIST mainlaind; i. e, most likely erode, if not destroy Taiwan's de facto autonomy that has been in existence at least since 1949 when Mao Tse Tung's Communists forced Chiang Kai Shek's (more) democratic Nationalists to flee to Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War, it is IMPERATIVE for Canada to take a FIRM and INDEPENDENT STANCE from that of our American neighbours, who, on the one-hand pay lip service to protecting Taiwan's autonomously democratic interests, while rewarding the mainland's continuing ANTI-deomcratic POST-6/4 TIENANMEN SQUARE machinations by bestowing Most favoured Nation status on it.

Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. James 3:10-12

Dear Mr Prime Minister,

Regardless of the fact it has been more than two decades since the Communist Chinese government used the supposed People's Liberation Army on the 1000s of its very own innocent Chinese civilians who were peaceably protesting IN FAVOUR of WESTERN DEMOCRACY,  the fact remains, to this day, these same Communists are still hunting down people they merely SUSPECT of taking being Tienanmen demonstrators, not to mention they now are redoubling their terror campaign against what they claim is just a renegade province: i. e, the autonomously democratic island republic of Taiwan.  Each time the Taiwanese people go to elect thier own government representatives (which right, we, in Canada, and many other western democracies, so often have taken for granted), the mainland Communists immediately threaten the island with all their nuclear arsenal pointed directly across the Taiwan Strait, just in case any new Taiwanese government dares to openly declare their autonomy and independence, as, again, the mainland Communisst Chinese government views Taiwan only as a renegade province.

We, the undersigned feel this is extremely unjust and contrary to even the most basic principles of international human rights and each nation's right to its own autonomy.  With that being written, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you and your government to SERIUSLY RECONSIDER rushing to strengthen economic ties with mainland China.  It may be that better or deeper trade relations with nations is essential to helping our economy recover, but not at the expense of people being treated merely as pawns or as targets for military war games practise.

Respectfully yours,
