Demand justice for Denver's street homeless people

Denver's police department has been arresting homeless people and confiscating and destroying all their possessions for years. Occupy Denver and Denver Homeless Outloud, now Housekeys Action Network, worked hard to get a class action law passed to stop this injustice. The law, Lyall et al, requires the police to give 48 hours notice to individual people and one weeks' notice to a group of 10 or more before being "swept" and their possessions taken. Unfortunately, they act as though this law had never been passed. Being homeless in Denver is still a crime and individuals live in fear that they can be arrested and robbed at any time. Their attempts to find work or utilize other services are put on hold or terminated when they can't be found while they are in jail. I have personally provided them with warm clothing and blankets for several months now only to find all my donations stolen.

It is time to force the police department to obey the law and honor the restrictions imposed by Lyall et al. Protect the street homeless and demand that DPD follow the law rather than their own prejudices. Give our homeless citizens time to get their lives in order rather than spend time in jail. Then when they are released, they should be exempt from the $150 fine imposed before release. This amounts to running a debtors' prison, which we disallowed when we established our nation. Please sign and help our homeless people find justice while they are making changes in their lives.
