Let Government help insulation for pensioners with flat roofs

In the last published English Housing Survey (2008), there were around 22.2 million dwellings in England, with only 4% of these having a roof wholly or mainly flat. Within the last three years, the Government has helped many elderly home owners to insulate their pitch roofs, but refused to help insulate flat roofs, calling those properties 'hard to heat'. This means that affected pensioners still spend a large portion of their pension to fight the huge deperdition of heat from the roof in winter and suffer with high levels of heat in summer. This is an environmental waste of energy, but equally a health hasard, as many cannot afford that level of heating and suffer cold in winter. The fuel allowance, which helps pensioners, does not replace the need for insulation. Pensioners need help with insulation, and those living under flat roofs need it more than others. Call on the Government to change their policy.
