Stop inflexible universal credit assessment periods

I have recently claimed universal credit as I moved home and this triggered me having to make an application. I have a good job as a service manager at a local mental health organisation however high rent and childcare costs meant that I had no other choice than to claim universal credit to survive.

My monthly universal credit assessment dates are between 25th and 24th of each month. My pay day is on the 25th however if my pay day falls on the weekend I get paid on the Friday beforehand. This results in two pays in one assessment period. This will happen to me four times between now and Christmas, the implication of this is that I will receive no universal credit during this month. It will happen six times next year.

To make matters worse because I will have four months where I will have nil income (even though I earn a month salary which is supposed to be above the London living wage) I will be affected by the benefits cap and will not receive double the amount in the subsequent months where I am considered by universal credit to have have nil income.

I am a single parent and suffer from bipolar. Not only will this situation affect my financial well-being but it will affect my mental well-being. This situation means that I would be better off not working as i would have more financial security and consistency, the whole idea of universal credit was that it was supposed to make work pay, well i can promise you that it doesn't.

I and others like myself really need your help and would like to know if you would be in a position to assist me and discuss my case in Parliment or take it to a plahave recently claimed universal credit as I moved home and this triggered me having to make an application.
