This New Bill Could Finally Protect Cats and Dogs From Dangerous Breeders

Right now, millions of animals remain vulnerable to inbreeding, mutilation, and unsafe conditions driven by profit. Thankfully, the European Parliament just approved a major bill to protect cats and dogs across the EU.

The bill will ban harmful breeding practices, require microchipping and registration, and crack down on illegal breeders exploiting animals for profit. But it's not a law just yet.

Sign the petition to urge the European Council to adopt this bill so it can finally come into force.

Across the EU, weak or inconsistent rules have allowed illegal breeding operations to thrive, often selling animals with serious health and behavioral issues. Families are left dealing with the emotional and financial consequences, while animals suffer in silence.

This bill would set clear, EU-wide standards for breeding, housing, and traceability — including requiring all cats and dogs to be microchipped and registered, and banning practices that intentionally breed animals for harmful physical traits.

It would also apply to animals entering the EU, helping close loopholes that allow poorly regulated imports.

Although it was approved, the bill still needs to be adopted by the European Council to be enforced.

Sign the petition now to push the European Council to act and ensure these protections become reality.
