Academic Freedom and Critical Race Theory at Salt Lake Community College

The Faculty Senate at Salt Lake Community College is resolute in our affirmation that academic freedom is essential to the mission, vision and values of our institution. Furthermore, we resolve that Critical Race Theory is essential to the fulfillment of our mission, vision and values. Banning this theoretical framework and the ideas therein is a threat to our academic freedom and represses our ability to educate all of our students in a just, equitable, and inclusive manner. Additionally, banning Critical Race Theory is in direct opposition to SLCC'S Inclusion Statement which promises to recognize the "inherent worth and dignity of all people".
